LG targets upward curve

LG is hoping that the latest version of its curved handsets will capture the imagination of consumers. Launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the new G Flex 2 phablet has the same curved concave screen as the original G Flex but now comes at a more palm-friendly size of 5.5 inches instead of the six inches of the first handset. Other improvements include a full HD 1080p screen and Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

Not everyone is convinced that the curved phone will win over consumers. Ben Wood, chief of research, CCS Insight, remained sceptical: ‘The G Flex2 is an attractive device that improves on its predecessor, but it is unremarkable in a sea of Android smartphones; it will struggle to compete with Apple’s high-tier dominance. Consumer apathy towards curved phones is likely to continue in 2015.’

Vodafone has announced that the LG G Flex 2 will be exclusively available on the Vodafone network for six weeks from launch.
