Toshiba signs deal with Orange for G450 mobile-phone-plus-USB-dongle

Toshiba has agreed a deal with Orange to supply its new G450 ‘USB modem phone’. The device doubles up as a mobile phone and as a USB modem for internet access on laptops.

The device, priced at around £150, allows the user to make or receive calls without interrupting the internet connection.

Carphone Warehouse is believed to have shown interest in the device, following strong sales across the industry for USB modems in recent months.

Toshiba is expected to approach T-Mobile, 3 and Vodafone, who have all made USB modems a key part of their sales strategies.

Toshiba’s G450 device lacks Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but does come with a simple headset. An updated version is likely to be brought to market in the coming months.
